What does a Truck Mechanic do?

As a truck mechanic in the Netherlands, you are at the heart of the European logistics supply chain — keeping heavy transport fleets, trailers, and specialized machinery operating with absolute safety and mechanical reliability.

Diagnostics & troubleshooting

Utilizing advanced diagnostic computer programs like Mercedes-Benz Star Diagnosis, Scania SDP3, or Volvo Tech Tool to locate and analyze electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic system faults.

Engine & driveline repair

Conducting mechanical repairs, component replacements, and rebuilds on large diesel engines, gearboxes, drive axles, and exhaust aftertreatment systems.

Pneumatics & braking systems

Servicing, testing, and repairing complex air brake installations, including electronic braking systems (EBS) and anti-lock braking systems (ABS) on both trucks and trailers.

Preventative maintenance

Performing periodic technical inspections, oil changes, filter replacements, and safety checks according to manufacturer guidelines to ensure fleet roadworthiness.

Hydraulics & bodywork systems

Repairing and maintaining hydraulic lifting equipment, tail lifts, tipping mechanisms, and fifth-wheel coupling assemblies.

Proven experience operating and repairing heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in a commercial workshop environment. Candidates with vocational training or experience in heavy agricultural machinery are also considered.

Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical manuals, pneumatic schematics, and electrical wiring diagrams to troubleshoot complex vehicle systems.

A working knowledge of English (B1 level or above) is required to communicate with international colleagues and workshop supervisors. Dutch language skills are appreciated but not mandatory.
