Why the Netherlands?

Europe’s construction powerhouse

The Netherlands must build 900,000 new homes by 2030 to address a severe housing shortage. Every single one of those homes requires expert plumbing, heating, and sanitary installations, while a nationwide shift toward gas-free living creates massive demand for sustainable energy specialists.

Top European wages

The Netherlands offers some of the highest construction wages in Europe. Plumbers working under the Dutch collective labour agreement (CAO) earn competitive hourly rates, with shift bonuses and overtime pay pushing take-home earnings even higher.

Accommodation provided

Agency-provided housing is available near your workplace at approximately €100 per week, deducted directly from your salary. This arrangement sits far below Dutch market rates for private rentals, making your transition smooth and affordable.

Career growth

The Dutch installation sector values skilled workers. Many plumbers advance to site supervisors, technical planners, or sustainable energy specialists (such as heat pump technicians) within 1–2 years, with salary increases to match.

English-friendly

The Netherlands ranks first globally for English proficiency among non-native speakers. You will work and live comfortably in English-speaking environments, as many Dutch construction sites and installation teams operate entirely in English.

Strong worker rights

Dutch labour law provides robust protections. Plumbers benefit from paid holidays (minimum 20 days per year), an 8% holiday pay bonus calculated on gross salary, mandatory health insurance, and pension contributions from day one.

Great quality of life

From Amsterdam and Eindhoven to Rotterdam and Breda, the Netherlands offers excellent infrastructure, public transport, healthcare, and a vibrant multicultural lifestyle.

Your role

What does a Plumber do?

As a plumber in the Netherlands, you are at the centre of the nation's infrastructure development — ensuring that residential, commercial, and industrial buildings have safe, efficient water and heating systems.

cnc-role-photo

System installation & assembly

You will roll out pipes, place copper and steel lines, and assemble sanitary facilities. Your daily tasks involve connecting water pumps, central heating units, and drainage systems in both new builds and renovation projects.

Technical drawing interpretation

You will read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and water-technical diagrams. Familiarity with Dutch Nederlandse Norm (NEN) standards ensures that all installations meet strict national safety codes.

Heating & climate control

You will install radiators, underfloor heating manifolds, and modern climate control systems. As the market shifts toward sustainable energy, connecting heat pumps (warmtepompen) forms a growing part of your responsibilities.

Leak detection & repair

You will independently perform diagnostic work to troubleshoot leaks and pressure-test gas lines. Ensuring the integrity of existing systems is crucial during large-scale renovation projects.

Process monitoring & compliance

You will monitor system performance during installation, identify defects, and implement corrective actions. Compliance with the Safety, Health and Environment Checklist Contractors (VCA) protocols is essential on all Dutch sites.

Maintenance & housekeeping

You will perform routine maintenance, clean your workspace, and keep your tools organized. Collaborating closely with carpenters, electricians, and site managers (uitvoerders) ensures projects finish on time.

Who we are looking for

Requirements & qualifications

You don't need to tick every box - but the more experience you bring, the higher the salary and the faster the placement.

Hands-on plumbing experience

You need proven experience operating as a plumber in housing construction, renovation, or industrial environments. Entry-level candidates with vocational training and a strong willingness to learn are also considered.

cnc-req-2

Technical drawing & VCA skills

You must possess the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications. Ideally, you hold a VCA safety certificate, though many employers are willing to help you obtain this upon arrival.

cnc-req-1

English communication

A working knowledge of English (B1 level or above) is required to communicate safely with colleagues and supervisors. Dutch language skills are highly appreciated but not mandatory for starting your career here.

cnc-req-4

Attention to detail

You must apply a meticulous approach to quality and precision. The ability to work to tight tolerances and maintain consistent output throughout your shift ensures that water and gas systems function flawlessly.

cnc-req-5

EU citizenship

You must hold an EU/EFTA passport to start immediately without a work permit. Non-EU candidates may be considered depending on the employer, but the process requires sponsorship and specific salary thresholds.
