Earnings vary by experience level, specialisation (e.g., in-situ formwork vs. prefab), and shift pattern. Here is a comprehensive overview of what you can expect in 2026.
As a concrete worker (betonwerker) in the Netherlands, you are the foundation of major building projects — shaping, reinforcing, and pouring the structures that support the country's infrastructure and housing.
Build, assemble, and position formwork (bekisting) for foundations, walls, columns, and floors. Ensure all molds are dimensionally accurate and securely braced before pouring begins.
Read structural plans to cut, bend, and tie steel reinforcement bars (ijzervlechten). Position the rebar correctly within the formwork to provide the necessary tensile strength for the concrete structure.
Direct the concrete delivery, pour the mixture into the prepared forms, and use vibrators to eliminate air pockets. Level and smooth the surface using screeds, floats, and trowels to achieve the specified finish.
In factory settings, produce precast concrete elements such as stairs, balconies, and sandwich panels. Demold the cured elements carefully and prepare them for safe transport to the construction site.
Conduct dimensional inspections throughout the process to ensure all work meets strict Dutch building codes. Verify that the concrete mix, reinforcement placement, and curing times align with project specifications.
Maintain a clean, organised work area and adhere strictly to VCA safety protocols. Coordinate with crane operators and other trades to ensure a safe workflow on busy, multi-disciplinary sites.
You don't need to tick every box - but the more experience you bring, the higher the salary and the faster the placement.
Proven experience in civil concrete construction, residential building, or prefab production. Entry-level candidates with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are also considered for helper roles.
Ability to read and interpret 2D/3D technical drawings, blueprints, and reinforcement plans. A valid VCA (Safety, Health and Environment Checklist Contractors) certificate is mandatory for Dutch sites, though we can help you obtain this if needed.
A working knowledge of English (B1 level or above) is required to communicate safely with colleagues and supervisors. Dutch language skills are appreciated but not mandatory.
A meticulous approach to quality and precision. The ability to work accurately to technical specifications and maintain consistent output throughout a physically demanding shift is essential.
EU/EFTA passport holders can start immediately without a work permit. Non-EU candidates may be considered depending on the employer — contact us to discuss your situation.
Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions or adapt to factory shift patterns. A reliable, punctual attitude is highly valued, and many positions offer stable long-term contracts.
