Assistant Operator – Petrochemical Installations in Netherlands

Altena Group is a leader in industrial and petrochemical cleaning, offering specialist solutions across the Netherlands and Europe. We are looking for motivated Assistant Operators to support operations for our largest client – Shell in Rotterdam.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate temporary technical installations to drain, fill, heat, circulate, clean, and dry petrochemical systems
• Monitor and adjust temperature, pressure, flow rate, and concentration of various processes
• Set up and dismantle pumps, piping, valves, compressors, tanks, and heat exchangers
• Communicate with client operators about process data and progress
• Follow detailed work plans and strict safety protocols

Training & Career Growth:

• Full on-the-job training provided
• External certification courses:
  • SIR Chemical Technical Operator
  • Respiratory protection, Flange Mechanic, and other safety credentials
• Junior candidates may start as Flange Mechanics, with a clear path to becoming full Operators

Requirements:

• Technical or hands-on background (e.g., handyman, mechanical work)
• Motivated to learn, train, and grow into a specialist role
• VCA Certificate required (or willingness to obtain it)
• Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and occasionally abroad
• Must be comfortable working in physically demanding, dirty environments

What We Offer:

• Salary for experienced mechanics: €14.76 – €20/hour
• Workweek: 40 hours with overtime possible
• Travel allowance: €0.21/km (after first 30 minutes)
